Model organisms are species that are used for biology research. Model organisms allow us to do experiments that are not possible in humans. This is possible because many genes and biological processes are highly conserved among organisms. Model organisms can also be manipulated genetically to determine the role of diseases and biological processes in disease development. Common model organisms include yeast, nematodes, fruit flies, zebrafish, and mice. [1]
