Gene ontology gives scientists a common language with which to describe gene processes, functions, and locations. Gene ontology is focused on three aspects of biology: biological processes, molecular functions, and cellular components. Terms in gene ontology are organized in a hierarchical fashion representing different levels of specificity and relationships between terms. [1]
